Salem means peace! It is related to the ancient Hebrew greeting: Shalom!
We share this peace as the Lord has taught us in the preaching of the Gospel and the church’s sacraments, as Jesus comes to us in His Divine Service.
Salem is a member congregation of The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod and of the one holy catholic and apostolic church. Salem has been proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ in word and sacrament at 4th and Amelia Streets in Gretna, Louisiana since 1871.
Salem is committed to the historic liturgy and traditional Lutheran hymnody as an authentic, evangelical expression of the Christian faith.
